How is TDEE calculated?

First, the calculator estimates BMR using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation.

TDEE = BMR × Activity Factor

The activity factors used are:

Sedentary = 1.2
Lightly Active = 1.375
Moderately Active = 1.55
Very Active = 1.725
Extra Active = 1.9

Example:

BMR = 1,649 kcal/day

Moderate Activity = 1.55

TDEE ≈ 1,649 × 1.55

TDEE ≈ 2,556 kcal/day
Important: TDEE is an estimate, not an exact measurement or dietary prescription. Actual energy needs can vary with body composition, daily movement, exercise intensity, health, pregnancy, medications and other individual factors. This calculator is intended for general informational use by adults.
