How is electricity usage calculated?
Convert Watts to Kilowatts
Kilowatts = Watts ÷ 1,000
Daily Energy
kWh/day = Kilowatts × Hours Used
Electricity Cost
Cost = kWh × Electricity Rate
Example:
Appliance = 1,500 W
Usage = 8 hours/day
Period = 30 days
Electricity Rate = ₹8/kWh
Daily Energy:
(1,500 ÷ 1,000) × 8
= 12 kWh/day
30-Day Energy:
12 × 30 = 360 kWh
Cost:
360 × ₹8
= ₹2,880
1 electricity unit = 1 kWh.
Therefore, an appliance using 360 kWh has consumed
360 electricity units.
This calculator assumes one constant price per kWh.
Actual electricity bills can differ because utilities
may use slab/tier rates, fixed charges, taxes, subsidies,
fuel charges or other fees.
Appliance wattage is often the rated or maximum power.
Devices such as air conditioners and refrigerators may
cycle on and off, so their actual consumption can differ
from a simple wattage × time estimate.
